PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh City Council defied Pennsylvania state law by giving final approval to a package of local gun control measures.
The measures bans military-style rifles like the AR-15 rifles. They also ban certain types of ammunition and standard-capacity magazines that hold more than 10 rounds, and allows “Red Flag” gun confiscation orders.
The measures were approved by a 6-3 vote of the council and are now headed to Mayor Bill Peduto who is expected to sign them.
Pennsylvania state law specifically forbids local municipalities from regulating firearms. Gun rights advocates are expected to file suit.
