Florida Sheriff: Exercise Your Second Amendment Rights and Be Prepared

In response to last week’s workplace shooting in Orlando and the London terrorist attack, one Florida sheriff defies political correctness and urges citizens to exercise their second amendment rights.

Citizens must exercise their second amendment rights and be prepared “as the first line of defense”

In a recent video posted on the Brevard County Florida Sheriff Office’s official Facebook page, Sheriff Wayne Ivey expressed condolences to the families of the 5 victims in the Orlando shooting last week by a disgruntled former employee. The sheriff then urged his fellow citizens to exercise their second amendment rights, take advantage of concealed carry training classes, and be prepared to respond to an attack. Said Ivey, “Now, more than ever, is the time for our citizens to be prepared to serve as the first line of defense.”

A warning call to those still in denial

Calling himself, “One of the most politically incorrect sheriffs in the country”, Ivey pulled no punches in his warning to citizens about the danger of complacency. “Doing nothing,” he said, “or hoping it won’t happen to you, is not going to save your life.” He added, “For those who think it can’t or won’t happen here, trust me when I tell you its already happening all around us.”

Ivey’s warning comes on the heel of the terrorist attack in London last week, when radicalized islamic terrorists used a rented van to kill 7 people and injure 48 others. The same week, a disgruntled employee of an Orlando Florida awning manufacturer shot and killed 5 people.

Referring to the London attack and the resulting advice from British police to its citizens to “Run, Hide, and Tell” when confronted by a violent attacker, Ivey countered, “Really? Coaching citizens that the best way to save their life… is to Run, Hide, or Tell?” Ivey pointed out the absurdity of such advice, “What’s next? Ask them to run, hide, and then draw a line in the sand, while daring the cold-blooded murderer to cross it?”

“This is war and you better be prepared”

The sheriff’s advice to Americans is to “Fully understand that this is war, and you better be prepared to wage war to protect you, your family, and those around you if attacked. I am firmly convinced that, as Americans, we can no longer sit back and pray the fight isn’t brought to us.” He urged, “Instead, we have to stand together, shoulder to shoulder, and be prepared to issue an immediate and directed response when the attack happens.”

“No matter who you are, or what your position is on guns, there’s no denying the fact that the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun or a knife, is an armed or well-prepared citizen or law enforcement officer.” – Sheriff Wayne Ivey, Brevard County Florida Sheriff

The sheriff’s advice crosses political party lines. “No matter who you are,” he states, “or what your position is on guns, there’s no denying the fact that the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun or a knife, is an armed or well-prepared citizen or law enforcement officer.” “There is no doubt,” he concluded, “that as soon as 911 is called, law enforcement is on the way, however, until they arrive, it is up to you, and those with you, to neutralize or eliminate the threat.”
